Plans are progressing and work is due to begin on the $23.3 million redevelopment of the centre including the construction of five new multi-purpose (netball, basketball & volleyball) courts, gymnasium upgrade and conversion of the existing stadium to a state level gymnastics facility for the Waverley Gymnastics Club.
Subject to the approval of Council, Waverley Gymnastics and construction costs being received within budget and are expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
Works on the project could commence as early as May 2019 and expected to be completed by October 2020. As a result, all stadium competitions for Basketball, Netball and Futsal will not run past the current season, ceasing 3 March 2019.
Stadium competitions will no longer be offered by City of Monash from the conclusion of the current season. Instead, Waverley Basketball Association, Waverley District Netball Association and Volleyball Victoria will be managing competitions in the stadium when it re-opens in late 2020 and have agreed to accommodate, wherever practicable, teams wishing to enter alternate competitions during the construction period.
Active Monash is working with a number of sporting associations to offer opportunities for teams to continue to play in nearby competitions. Details regarding alternate competitions are shown below. We will provide you with further information about the redevelopment once our project timelines are finalised.
